The Daily Grind

Kevin has been home for several days and we are getting into our routine. Breakfast, getting cleaned up, dressing change, 1-2 hour nap, then up for the day. Kevin is keeping buss with Sudoku and reading.
Last night Joey and his family came by for a visit. It was nice to see them, and the vacation was obviously getting to them all. Camping for a week can do one in.
The nurse came on Tuesday and will return today. Kevin has a Dr. visit this Monday and the next. We return to the oncologist on the 12th. I am amazed at how quickly he is bouncing back this time. Some of his days are not as good. He is having more good than not so good. He is happy for any outside contact. We are usually ready to receive visitor and phone calls after 12pm. No formal invitation is required.

Kevin comes home

Kevin was released at 10:30 this morning. Dave took me to get him Kevin in his Grand Cherokee. Dave helped me get him in and unloaded all of the stuff. We ate lunch and now Kevin is taking a nap. I have to get his pain medication at Walgreen's.

Kevin reaches 300

Kevin walked over 300 feet yesterday in Physical Therapy! He has already nearly met his goals for P.T. and O.T.. His speech is getting better. I you talk to him on the phone or in person, please give him extra time to answer you, and if what he says is not clear ask him to repeat it. This is part of his Speech Therapy. he is cutting back his pain medicine during dressing changes, by his request. We have started to eat dinner in the dinning room. He is making leaps and bounds every day!!

Extende Care

Kevin is making leaps and bounds of progress! He walked over 200 feet yesterday. He was able to stand up to brush his teeth, shave, and put in his contacts. He is in good spirits and is even progressing with the Speech Therapist. Keith, Doris and his parents came over on Saturday for a visit. Rich, Heather and the girls came by on Sunday, then my parents. Later in the afternoon Mark came by to visit for a while. The wound appears to be healing very well.
I have been able to get back on the bike, so maybe I can get my blood sugars under control again. The cats have decided that Kevin is now gone for good and have completely taken over both sides of the bed leaving me the middle.
It is time to get moving. I have to stop and get some magazines and a paper or Kevin. Th paper is for his Speech Therapy. He gets to read the cartoons aloud.

Kvin on the mend

Kevin moved to the BJC Extended Care in Clayton today. He arrived around 2pm and is in room 239. He is doing much better and has a private room with a balcony. The door to the balcony is locked though. He was tired from the trip, and slept most of the afternoon. The visiting hours are from 10 am until 8 pm. He is in room 239. He has his cel. The Dr. thinks he will only be in for 2 weeks, and the antibiotics will be done. He has agreed to start speech therapy so his communication should improve. If anyone would like to visit him that would be great. I learned from the last stay that I can not be there all of the time. He is far more comfortable this time around. Kevin is looking better than he has in a couple of weeks.

Kevin update

Kevin is still in BJC. He is doing really well. An MRI was ran yesterday, we should get the results today. The infection is clearing up and he was able to stop one of the antibotics yesterday. He is starting to move and sitting for short periods causes him no pain. We are unsure when he will com home. Today's Dr. visit should shed some light on that. He had a nurse the last 2 nights that we are very displeased with. Her first knight she refused to call and get an order to change his dressing. This left me to inform the day nurse, May, and the attending yesterday. My displeasure was made clear! He is felling better every day, and this appears to be a small setback.

Hospital Update

Kevin had surgery today for gaingrene in the scrotum again. As it turnd out he has celluitas on his bottom and the gaingrene returned. The surgury was far less invasive. The surgon was quick to get him in and the procedure was over within one hour. Kevin is resting comfortbly, with the aid of pharmacuticals, he is probably going to be in for about a week and them he should come not to an extended care facility. I will keep this updated.

Kevin is in the hopital

Kevin was admitted to Barns July 1. It appears that the wound has become infected. The Dr. believes it has been caught early. He is actually doing well. He also had another TIA on Sunday night. It was only about 30 seconds, well that he was awake for. It happened between 4 and 5 in the morning and neither of us woke up enough to realize what was happening until it was all over. He is in good spirits and in a privet room.
